Ladies, can we talk about Pyrex? Those awesome retro mixing bowls and casserole dishes and refrigerator boxes? Do you have any? What's your favorite pattern? Any happy memories to share?
When I was a kid my mom had the pink and white Gooseberry Cinderella mixing bowls. (which sadly got broken in the eighties) I remember them well, though! I inherited two yellow rectangular casserole dishes from my paternal grandmother. I also bought a set of three Shenandoah mixing bowls a few years back, and just recently bought the smallest fridge dish in yellow. And now I've just sent off for a 1.5 qt mixing bowl in the New Dots pattern, which has yellow dots. Excited I am. ![]() I will also admit that I do actually use my Pyrex stuff! I don't cook in it, cuz that makes me a little nervous, but I use the mixing bowls for mixing and also serve food in them. I laughed to read on the Pyrex Love site that they were a little horrified when Rachael Ray was using her Pyrex on TV to actually mix food in! I mean, I get that it's not exactly replaceable, but still... I'm more of the 'enjoy your possessions' school of thought than the 'preserve them under glass' school. Here's a link to the different patterns: http://www.pyrexlove.com/vintage-pyrex-pattern-guide/ There's also a Flickr group called Pyrex in Action with many gorgeous shots of the dishes in their native element! http://www.flickr.com/groups/829257@N24/
