I only just figured out that this was where to post replies today... maybe we could put a link to the thread for the comments at the end of the entry. Or maybe I missed something???

The actual comments button on the blog does not seem to work. When I am start a comments thread I try to post the link in the in the thread. Wordpress is not new to me- but having the comments section on the forum is.
The blogging thing is something that is big to me. The hardest thing for me has been being able to write something other than crud that has the substance of mashed potatoes. We forsaw this a very important change to our content when we started speaking words about change in July.I think most of have our training wheels on. It is a new process to the mods and to the community so we are going to learn this one together.

Who can contribute ?
Anyone who sits around the board can contribute to the blog. If you want to contribute just turn it over to one of the mods and we can post your part of the blog for the week. It's ok just to turn it over if you have something you are not sure about, we might be able to help you get your idea out .

Blog of the week ? What ?
There are no rules about the how often a blog comes out. The people who are involved have done a great job getting something together during beginning of the board, and during back to school time.Maybe someday we can have it change on a regular basis- but each of us have somewhat full plates . I like to view it as the unexpected surprise where I might learn something.

Where does the content for the blog come from ?
Even the mundane and arcane reaches of your life can end up as blog fodder. The blog provides as a starting point for the entire community of EDSW to discuss something. Much like Phreaky Friday, the blog gives us a round table to contribute to in the comments. It does not matter is if about hamster poo each of us has an opinion. So don't be afraid to talk, rant about your Mother in law or how you spouse keeps their vehicles in bad shape. As sisters, mothers, daughters, wives and friends, we all have been there in some form or fashion.

How do I write a blog ?
Well that is something we all have different methods in our madness. I write ideas and generate them several at a time( much like Phreaky Friday). There are bunches of things in my Outlook from poetry to recipes that are there to generate fuel. They sit around and when I need something I pull it out. Other times I can sit down and write straight through if the idea is really good. If you want to do something- sometimes it takes time. Mainly I think it takes practice.

Why would you write a blog ?
It is cheaper than therapy.I am a pretty unstable mass- so I have three.
I have a weight loss blog that I started over a 3fat chicks when I was an active member of their community. I still contribute things from time to time because it provides an active link to this site that the web crawlers pick up. When you are dieting all you want to think about dealing with a diet so having a blog is a nice way to journal the experience.
There is another blog that is personal. I keep it and circulate it among friends out there who don't know sirak ever wore a tiara or has a cape in her closet. Some of them don't know that I can cook. It is stuff I find and have to write about. It is a true catalyst for personal growth. I can talk about anger. I can talk about cake balls. I can take a poem and write about how it relates to my life. The content police are not out there looking at my stuff, like at the dieting site.

So I encourage and challenge each of you to think about something you can talk about that is meaningful. We don't want a bunch of political garbage- because not everyone is having an election year( the Aussies just had a big one- did anyone in the US notice ?).
I think there is power in our passions for life. We can grow personally and as a site with just plain talk about what ever is out there. See what you might have to say and pass it on !

I disabled the comments way back when we were getting set up, but we could turn them back on if you all wanted to. My thinking was that the point was to bring people into the forum for discussion, not to create another area that was in need of moderation.

That said, I was thinking the same as LL, that we should put a little link to the forum discussion at the bottom of any entry, unless we want to let people comment in the blog format.

I think its a great idea to have the comments on this board to get folks over here. Is there a way to set up a template so that there is an automatic link at the bottom?

Also another technical question (which I'm sure you would tell me when I wrote a blog) who would start the comments thread? Would y'all do that, or should the blogger do that?

Okay here's another one--in what format should we write up our blog entries? In other words, should we write something, submit it, and then you post it? Or do we post directly? If we post directly, should we notify somebody first?

Bascically, I have two posts in mind--one about taking pictures when it snowed in Atlanta yesterday, and the other about making Valentine's cards. I thought I'd ask these here so others could benefit from the answers...

Thanks!

If you would like to blog, we can set it up so that you have author access on the blog. You'll need to register on the blog specifically, and then we can set your permissions.

My feeling on it is that any of our established, active members may request author access to the blog. You don't need to OK your post with anyone first so long as the blog respects copyright and the purpose/tone of our site.

It is simpler for the blogger to start their own comment thread, but most of the mods would be glad to help you do it. I think there are only some of us that have blog permissions so far, though.

Boy, I'd love to figure out how to set up a template at the bottom of the posts, but I am just not that familiar with all the details of how to do that stuff yet. I'm working on it, but it's a slow process to teach this old dog those new tricks.
