My knees won't do anything else at this point...still, I'd like to finish faster, feeling better, and less likely to end up in a coma the next day!

Thanks for starting us off, Zippity!

My friend "goldcat" is going to be joining us on this thread. She is a new member, and just started walking regularly. I'm so excited! She is one of my favorite people.

Scarletwing and EmilyD will be joining us as well.

I need to research training programs.

    Yep, here I is!

Went for a 2 1/2 mile walk the other night with my walking partner (aka: my neighbor Kathy) and walked myself right into shin splints. The pain is going away. Wore the wrong shoes for walking any distance.

Right now I'm doing weight training. Lifting that bottle of motrin to my face 3x a day!

    Hello Trainees!
    Welcome goldcat!

There is a group at Spark People that uses this page:
    http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

Going to be more than I can do to start out,
but I am going to try a version of it.
I bought a beautiful pink hulahoop that I plan to try out pretty soon too! LOL

Program to start: rest of this week (daily)
10 min walks on treadmill 2.0 mph x 2 to begin
    25 ball crunches per day
    20 lying hamstring lifts
    15 wall pushups

    Next week: Starting Monday (daily)
10 min walk on treadmill 2.0 mph x 3 (cardio)
25 ball crunches per day (weight training)
    20 lying hamstring lifts
    15 wall pushups
    20 min Yoga DVD 3 x week (M/W/F) (flexibility)

I am going to do a 5K Volksmarch solo walk on or about Nov 25 (Thanksgiving Day)
(depends on the weather) Arkansas River Walk. I know Dec will be too cold/snowy/icy
but will walk with you all in spirit!

    hi,

I haven't figured out my training plan yet. I did go for a walk today. There is a nice one-mile walk in my subdivision, that goes up and down some fairly steep hills. I'm not sure of the incline. I pushed it a bit. I forgot to check the time, though. I've misplaced my pedometer, but I do have a stopwatch. So I need to dig that out. I've also misplaced my athletic shoes. huh? did I leave them at the gym, or something?

my knees and ankles were a bit sore later, but overall it felt good.

the weather turned last night, and it was only 68F at noon! perfect walking weather. I need to take advantage of it before it gets cold.

    action items:
    • dig out stopwatch
    • make training spreadsheet
    • look up training plans
    • develop my own
    • buy walking/running shoes

    edited 10/6, week 2

I now have a cold. I guess I could focus on the non-walking parts of my plan. DH is on day five of his cold, so I expect I won't get much walking in next week.

goldcat is having health issues, so hasn't been able to train. She'll find out Friday how long she may be out of commission.

    ---

I haven't done anything except count how many weeks until Thanksgiving (8 as of today, but I am starting my count last week) and go for a walk.

It felt good to get back to the gym. My heart rate was really high for the perceived exertion, so I guess I am pretty out of shape.
