Thread: It's sling the filing cabinet day

Default It's sling the filing cabinet day

It's not really that I am going to throw it- just perhaps I should. In the general idea that there will be some sort of seperation in our household I a taking all of the business records and putting them in one big filing cabinet .Before all personal records were in this ugly big black and functional thing.
The personal records are being split between two smaller filing cabients so that one has ongoing records and the other one has records that should be purged and school supplies.
This is a challenge to myself as it is a long haul project. One day a week I have been flinging files and sorting documents. This mess is still not done.
Left on my plate:
His stuff
2006-2007 transactions- sort/ file
label the beast
move, scan , copy 1999 records into big black and ugly
2005 records- label by month
fill that bottom drawer with as much crud as it will fit
My stuff
figure out budgeting information
review old payroll information and set up seperate files if need be.
Change beneficiary on 401k to DD21
Check on value on old life insurance policy

I got alot done this morning just with that set of records being put away. I got caught up in another facet of getting things together for seperation, but that's ok- it's done and caught up now.

Good work on a huge job. A crud drawer, I love it! You have to put the "stuff" somewhere.

Oh I love a crud drawer! - thats usually when I create at the end of a day of cleaning and I just can't figure out what the heck to do with that last pile of stuff!
I am evil ~~ I acknowledge and embrace that fact!!

I have broken the " day" into two as last week made me depressed. Some of it is like looking into Pandora's box. I have started saving my receipts to help figure out spending on my part. There is labeling that has been completed and I have all of his medical/ dental billing separate and current.
I think I am going to move the entire computer to the other desk, banish his final piles of stuff to a drawer and box up the computer parts inventory and put it in his closet.

No he can lift all the crap that I am packing away. Then he has to figure out what the heck I packed away.
There might be enough parts there...hum need a mother board, and monitor, why would anyone have a NEW floppy drive ?
anyway I got the puter parts put away, software and everyone file of information about componets in one central area.
Bonus of the day ?
I found the portable DVD Player that was in the T'giving wreck almost two years ago. The lid doesn't close well- but I found the adapter cord and it works.
In one day I have figuredout how to have cable and DVD in my bedroom !

:high5: Way to go!

I got a new toy that is making my paper life a little easier - a good crosscut shredder. I even shredded a CD today, because I could. :www_MyEmoticons_com__blush: Okay, it was the old Quicken backup disc, but still. Wow.

I think I'm in love. :www_MyEmoticons_com__makeup:

It's time to deconstuct the pile of receipts that have been looming around the drawer in my desk. I want to know where the money is going and how much I spend at the store.Hopefully over a period of time I will have a better picture of where the money that I spend is going. I am starting to add a couple of other todos in the office and know that it getting time to contact someone with a higher power to deal with the rest of this.
I can put back together a horse's injured leg, clear mountains of clutter and feed armies of people- but to get some of the stuff out of this office I will need to contact a lawyer.

You are doing awesome on a really hard hard job. By comparison my battles with paper pale totally. However I did one really silly easy thing that made things easier. I moved the location of the shredder. I have a fear of the young kids getting at it and had it in this area I had deemed kid free. Well it was indeed but it was also so inconvenient to adults that we would amass bags of shreddables before going and unearthing it and doing anything about it. Now it is in a relatively inconspicuous location but very assessable when I pay bills AND it is kid safe as I have it unplugged and the plug tucked behind it when it is not in use.
